Touro University California is a university under Jewish auspices founded upon the universal values of commitment to social justice, intellectual pursuit, and service to humanity. As such, Touro University California is dedicated to the following:
Looking back to September and moving forward to today, I am so pleased with my journey and the journey of my colleagues in this cohort. Not only have we all been accepting of one another and respectful to one another, but we have collaborated, supported, and appreciated each other since the beginning. I am glad we are a small cohort. In fact, when a peer decided to take a leave of absence, it was felt by each and every one of us. That is how connected we became in a very short amount of time.
I am not going to lie when I say I haven't been frustrated with some of Touro's philosophies. For example, it took me a long time to realize that our professors didn't lay everything out for us because the idea was to push us into our own intellectual inquiry. This push has made us open doors for ourselves and find discoveries beyond someone telling us. It has made me understand and appreciate how my students feel. I want my students to become life-long learners, such as myself, and now I realize that I can't hand everything to them. They need to make discoveries on their own.
My journey has led me to passing on what I have learned and helping others to follow the same path. I have successfully researched digital citizenship with SEL and PBIS practices. I am taking some time this summer to create a lesson plan document for other teachers to do the same with their students. As the BEST lead for our school site, I am proud to create this addition to our BEST lessons. Our students will benefit and these lessons will hopefully protect them as online users.
